I’ve done an awful job with updating the blog with pictures of things we’ve done while in Perth. One of the reasons is I know most of you are just here for the food (which is totally fine) and I don’t want to bore you with (nearly) ten billion pictures of my life, BUT for the e-mails and comments I have gotten asking for pictures, I decided to write one GINORMOUS post filled with mostly pictures. And tomorrow? Food will be back. And it will be good
A few weekends ago, we headed up to Caversham wildlife park. It is one of the neatest places and we had such a great experience. The park is quite large and set up similar to a zoo with far less animals. The focus is on interacting with the animals and learning about them.
They provide food to feed the animals and allow you to touch, feed, and hold some of the animals. They also have some pretty cool shows where they teach you about the animals. I admit I was a little skeptical at first about the shows, but they were super interesting. We watched dogs round up sheep and then a man sheared a sheep right in front of us. It was surprising to see how still the sheep stayed while it was being shaved bald. And that one dog can round up so many sheep – that’s pretty amazing to see!
^^^You can see the joey hanging out in the pouch. The little joeys are the cutest!
We’ve also been to the Perth zoo which was really neat. The whole set-up of the zoo is gorgeous with tons of trees shading the park. There is a huge park in the center which Grey spent probably 30 minutes chasing birds around. He’s convinced he can catch all the birds and has been so far very unsuccessful.
We have spent way too much time at the nearby beaches. Wait, is that even possible?
We HELD koalas. (!!!) More about the experience here.
And that wraps up the highlights (AKA I’m obsessed with animals). We’ve also driven down to Denmark and Margaret River over two of the weekends here which were both weekends well spent! While we were at Denmark, the husband took surf lessons and the babe also tried it out (in the form of wearing a baby wet-suit). We also ate at the best breakfast restaurant I have EVER eaten at. Bold words but true ones. It’s called Mrs. Jones and I’ve told the husband when we are back in the states that the breakfast alone is enough for the 30 hours of travel!
We also had the chance to “walk among the giants” trees in Denmark. We got 400 meters above the ground and to be honest I was just freaked out.
And that wraps up my mega post of the highlights from Australia thus far. If you made it here to this text, well you are probably either my mother, mother-in-law, or one heck of an awesome reader Thanks for letting me share way too many photos of the fun we’ve had here!
